Economic interests got some of what was desired - Russia- but not all. Fast forwarding to Asia there were a number of important Western actors behind Communist China. An American relative of Maurice Strong was but one very important player. By the way in 1980 I saw the Australian Vietnam War film The Odd Angry Shot.
The film was great. Well made. Quite realistic in a way Apocalypse Now was not.
