Wow. And as the value of the money decreases, the distinction of having it melts away, slowly at first, then all at once. This will be very interesting, and quite ugly. I can hardly wait.

Tis only just begun. Do you know the poem Jacquelyn by Wallace Steven’s. Dry Loaf?

It is equal to living in a tragic land

To live in a tragic time.

Regard now the sloping, mountainous rocks

And the river that batters its way over stones,

Regard the hovels of those that live in this land.

That was what I painted behind the loaf,

The rocks not even touched by snow,

The pines along the river and the dry men blown

Brown as the bread, thinking of birds

Flying from burning countries and brown sand shores,

Birds that came like dirty water in waves

Flowing above the rocks, flowing over the sky,

As if the sky was a current that bore them along,

Spreading them as waves spread flat on the shore,

One after another washing the mountains bare.

It was the battering of drums I heard

It was hunger, it was the hungry that cried

And the waves, the waves were soldiers moving,

Marching and marching in a tragic time

Below me, on the asphalt, under the trees.

It was soldiers went marching over the rocks

And still the birds came, came in watery flocks,

Because it was spring and the birds had to come.

No doubt that soldiers had to be marching

And that drums had to be rolling, rolling, rolling.

Thank you, I had not heard of this poem; For the moment, it brings to mind what Gaza must look and feel like right now. The only family camping trip we took was to Gettysburg when I was 8 or so, I remember looking at the open fields, my Dad reading the placard explaining what battles had been fought there. The concept that the battles are inevitable is a new one for my head, but history does not deny it.

I recall Gbug. HAH. I was stung by wasps. I was a fool. Asa kid I put my hand up a wooden soldier’s sleeve. Really bad idea.

Oh jeez that is rough, the sting of war continued.....the only other thing I remember about that trip was the caves, and the fried eggs...a rock formation in the caves. Kind of fun to see them again... https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/luray-caverns-fried-egg-167307422.jpg
