My white, not black, Irish grandfather and dad (over the summers) both worked building Navy ships at Avondale shipyards. Grandfather dropped out of school to support his siblings when his parents died, then they went to war on one of those ships. He came home, put 7 kids through college, had 32 grandkids and a few great grands. Later died of lung whatever. No surprise, no parting gift. The American Dream.
