Rhodes had the great hope of a union of the English speaking peoples subsumed under the British Empire. In saying this however I think it is important to think of history starting with the Stuart monarch Charles I who adamantly refused to cede control of money. Charles toppled by Cromwell backed by Dutch Jews. Cromwell also refused to cede money power, as did his son. The monarch following, Charles II also refused, as did James II. James was removed from power by the Glorious Revolution of the mercantile Whigs on the basis of his agreement to create the Bank of England.
