Example; I as a consumer can buy a grounding mat for my computer, about 50-75 dollars. I can make a grounding mat for about 20 dollars. Or I can simply walk barefoot on the ground outside a few times a day. I am opting for making my own and also walking outside, though it's winter now. A slight improvement, perhaps.
I was raised with the New England motto - though my mother was from rural Kentucky- “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." Hah hah, the motto is by Calvin Coolidge! Must say I have embraced the idea and made do and done without.
That is a real good saying, haven't heard it in a while. My Dad told me that he was given one pencil to last the school year and it would simply get too short to use by the end, but that was it. I guess he learned not to press too hard. In contrast, I was given many pencils, I was given so much growing up, it did not do my understanding of the world much good. Luckily I have had some good low budget training as an adult, and have to think hard before I acquire new things. The other sayings I appreaciate are 'Compare, Despair' (very helpful!) and 'broke, but not broken' which I do like as well, having been there some too. best
I’ve been down so long it looks like up to me.😂. I’m frugal to a certain degree and spendthrift in other aspects of my lifestyle. I have maybe $100 “extra” money per month if not working. I’m pleased though because I’m happy with not needing so many things that people chase.
