Oliver Cromwell’s Speech

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?https://www.britpolitics.co.uk/speeches-oliver-cromwell-long-parliament/

I like your mundane thoughts. "To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting. Unbeing dead isn't being alive." e.e. cummings

Some of my mundane thoughts in reading this:

The failure in the appearance of those who have had treatment to stop them from looking old. What they wished to avoid, they have exacerbated.

The people who walk around always plugged in, and to whom one cannot speak as their attention is not with the here and now. They have given themselves away to something else.

Myself, reading one Substack after another, and not stopping to jot down what new thoughts I might have had or what new information received. The soup needs time to simmer, not have new ingredients added to the boiling pot.
