I'm not an expert on Polish politics. I've been there frequently but the longest stay was about 3 months. Most other times it could be measured in weeks.
And I don't have any connections to the working class of Poland.
I'm sure some thought that he lent that way. But most middle class Poles working for the government could have (and actually were) accused of such leanings about 15 or 20 years ago. Personally I thought he wasn't intellectually up to it so would have just gone with whoever was prepared to reward him the most.

Everybody knew Lech was an agent. Or at the very least a 'useful idiot' anyway.
