From my experience when my husband was under intense medical care for ten years, is they can only do what that can with what they have which isn’t as much, or as good, as what most think.
Not wise to mention anything from outside the system as that can cause far too much friction. There is much waiting, hoping and numerous disappointments.
I was surprised to be shown certain treatment ‘recipes’ on the internet where I could offer a suggestion if I liked. That didn’t raise my confidence. Sadly, medical care only prolonged the inevitable. But still that was a reasonable outcome in my situation.
God - and this is a selfish admission - but your predicament terrifies me. Perhaps because there’s an element of undesired empathy (a lull between storms on the home front). I don’t know you and yet find myself pulling for you, praying as best an atheist might that things go as well as possible for you and your wife.
Thank you. I feel strongly this circumstance is anyone. We become sick. Bad this is. To consider our culture has roadblocks to health, a blanket tossed on all, is horrific.l

Stegiel's situation does have an *Everyman* quality to it indeed.
Kafka would understand.
1965 maybe as late as 1976.
The consensus failed to hold.
