Maiming and killing pilots with the jabs (along with all the others) is accomplishing one of those goals. Only the insane risk flying at this point, IMO. I am not even that keen on driving, with all the vaxxidents.

My urban world is car free. I walk where I can and rely on public transit when I cannot. And public transit doth have issues but fewer issues on certain routes. Now and then taking Amtrak bus towards South Lake Tahoe a couple years ago going on a winding mountain freeway road I had major concerns but we were ok. Flights concern me but I do have a one day vacation planned in Santa Barbara. Originally two over the long President's Day Holiday but learned last week that Block works 7 days a week during tax season holiday or not..

I’m doing roughly a 35 -40 hour week. Now and then a weekend. I thought Presidents’ Day would be work free. Alas. I love SB and SB was one reason Judith and I bonded. She lived in SB about 10 years before coming to El Norte. After Covid we were discussing how to make SB work.

I did that bus trip many years ago. I can't remember the winding roads maybe because we have our share here.

And what is the alternative to all of that?

Donald Trump and the 2025 project!

Check out the astute critique of such in the latest TomDispatch essay

You seem to reduce everything to a set of mutually exclusive binary oppositions whereas human culture and politics is more like an always mutating fractal

Not supporting the Duopoly by your vote obviously is the solution. Each election the government grows new fangs. The government is not a public thing, this nation is not a Republic, this nation is the Motley Cow. A myriad shouts in the street. At the time of the Liberation, the commissioner of the Republic, Gaston Cusin, requested that Ellul join the municipal delegation of Bordeaux under the leadership of the socialist Fernand Audeguil. This political experiment was short lived (October 31, 1944 to April 28, 1945). Ellul formed the conviction that political action (obtaining positions of responsibility via elections and participating in a party) could not produce profound change in social life. Politicians are elected on a platform, but practically speaking they have little ability to implement it because of their negligible power over the civil service, which acts according to its own technical logic.

The new Mayor of Dunedin was told by the CEO of the Council here, after his election in October 2022, that "nothing will change".

Oh sorry. That was a councilor who was told that (personal conversation).
