As a reader of East European writers I am familiar with not only Samizdat but strategies of writers to write one thing on the surface and say something different to awake readers as a way to escape censorship. For years I told anyone who listened that censorship can improve writing. It forced writers to carefully structure their dissent.
That is true, still it is one thing, of necessity, to have censorship influence one's intellectual work and the other not to be alarmed by
its spread. It's "survivalble, we always find the way but, for starters not everyone has ability to see beyond it and, secondly why should we allowed it? I'm not in any way disagreeing with your post Stegiel.
There were very many great works created under severe censorship.
In my opinion these people are persecuted by the Duo-Poly. If Republicans had backbone this would have been over. Which is my concern going into November. Our mis-leadership class is of one mind and election fraud does not bother them even if from states not liberal. Persecution of dissent works.
I do not want censorship. I was banned multiple times for 30 days on FB for dissent on vaccines and Covid. And honestly not everyone wants to know, as again, Covid demonstrates.
Smoke signals? The well predicted jackboot of fascism is descending fast now. The slippery slope wasn’t quite as slippery but acceleration was inevitable as the international fascist state reached critical mass.
A return to first principles is necessary and inevitable. For those who survive it will represent a way forward. Small bands of humans living amidst the fall of this civilization and the invention of new survivable strategies. When first principles are turned fully upside down and inside out we know the jackboot has arrived. “Give me Liberty or give me death” or choosing “dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery” are the options.
These first principles are where we end and where we begin.
We shall see how this works out. Armed people do not roll over easy, but without ammo they have a club. My concern is Normalcy bias. Worse: drones can deliver aerosol "vaccines."
