I dunno, now that I learned how the whole 'acid' revolution was brought to universities by the gov agencies, to disrupt society.....I have had more trouble taking the Learys and Ginsbergs seriously...babies and bathwater, yes, but a sheet of Escher (the tower that goes up and down design...) did change my life rather profoundly. It was the last chemically synthesized drug I ever took....
I would observe that idealists who spawned the initial counterculture that were not government agents did break through the hard core macho psyche. I also think the objectives failed.
Colorado, New Mexico were centers of counter culture population of youth. New Mexico especially. So cowboy acid did happen but I doubt off the hippie rez.
There's plenty of information, and maybe you are correct that different ways of thought are required.
Unfortunately I fail at Zen thinking and all it does for me is feel like a waste of time and it's demoralising in its supposed superiority.

The term "So what", although not used by TPTB today, exemplifies their attitude.
I didn't know about the YMCA's conspiracy role, but makes sense.
BTW, When I first left school I boarded in a YMCA hostel. The word Christian I took to mean some sort of moral standards of the residents.
