I rather enjoyed the "concrete" comparison to Hoover Dam. A useful frame to use for discussion. I have long been a student of modernity. I can see the through line from Bonaparte to China. And as a student of organizations who can be susceptible to politics I also grasp fear. 3 Gorges has survived so far. The damage done to date also considerable. The dam giving way-much worse than the floods justifying it's creation as a Triumph of Socialist Man.

There's been a few issues in these parts in regards to Chinese made concrete for bridges & the quality of steel provided. Apartment balconies manufactured there can also spontaneously combust.

What's the status of emigration from China to SF? There's so much here in Melbourne that it's starting to turn into a Chinese city. Certainly in the CBD but also several Melbourne suburbs, Knox City, Melbourne's 2nd CBD, the most obvious of those.

Funny thing is that our Chinese student last year took the Pfizer vaxx against my express advice and despite the view of her parents to never trust a Chinese vaccination.
