When I studied the Constitution in college we were exposed to Charles Beard, Hobbes, Locke, Burke, Paine, Madison, Hamilton, Jefferson, and also traditional historians considered important by 1973. We also were asked to read this Constitution and discuss Judicial Review. Lord Acton we did not read. Nor the Anti-Federalists. One only expects a bit from Undergraduates.
I thought then as I do now that the voter/citizen was lawfully empowered under the imperfect and oft amended document to the point of organizing into a pressure group without death squad retribution. A pious hope that political organization could be effective at a State and Federal level by virtue of having the high ground. Well aware though of what I took as lessons of the 60’s that only confrontational citizens at point of armed resistance to unlawful acts constituted an effective interest/pressure group-money an imperfect substitute as outspending for persuasion might work-money though the most highly favored method-I watched political decay continue.
Now 2022 and July 4th coming. Oligarchs constitute our polity and the pressure groups they organize. From murder of JFK to hysteria over Covid-19 the American population is herded, some off a cliff, others to work, others to pasture but herded.
Mass vaccination conformity demonstrated how great a loss has occurred. We are subjects and subjected. And now the Ukraine war adds to the loss, hastening collapse, and here too conformity raises it’s head and smiling taxpayers fork over what they do not have as a bizzare indulgence. USA must crusade to save the world. Even atomic war is worth the candle. And drollery indeed is this is true. We must. We must wage atomic war. We must win. Now this we is Oligarchy, and this Oligarchy is global as the world isvglobal, everywhere and nowhere are home. Of course only a sliver of these Oligarchs control. Likely less than 5%. And atomic war for these very very few men is not understood. What is viewed is the Leviathan. No God, but an idol as master called A.I. An idol comprised of Transhuman cyborgs at first, a bizarre collective oligarchical organism.
The Menace of the Mob
Kuprin, in one of his impressionistic sketches describes a rural school recitation of the fable of the grasshopper and the ant. He writes:
"An oppressive, sad, and fearful thought seemed to unfold itself in my mind. 'Here,' I thought, 'stand we, a small group of intelligents, face to face with a numberless people, the most enig- matic, the greatest and the most oppressed on earth. What binds us to them? Nothing. Neither tongue, .nor faith, nor work, nor art. Our poetryis laughable to them, as nonsensical and incompre- hensible as to a child. Our refined painting is to them a useless and undecipherable daubing. Our search for a God and our creation of a God is sheer raving to them who believe equally holily in a calendar saint and in the hobgoblin who lives in the bath-house. Our music seems dreary noise to them. Our science is insufficient for them. Our complicated labor is ludicrous and pitiful to them, so wise, patient, and simple is the cruel face of nature to the tiller. Yes—on the terrible day of reckoning, what shall we say to this infant and beast, this sage and animal, this giant numbering many millions? Nothing. We shall say: 'We sang the summer through,' and they will answer, with the cunning smile of the peasant: 'Then go" and dance a bit. . . .'
Has the terrible day of reckoning come?
