I have somewhat and amazingly aged. The horror of 4 years repressed, buried, IGNORED, cannot shock me. It does not. Not even a little. As I contemplate this my heart sinks. Mr. Natural walks in to my retail tax office on Geary and 20th and reads my mind on a cold wet day in San Francisco in what once was “Little Russia” and today is a neighborhood expensive and largely Asian. He smiles at me. “Twas ever thus” and goes, walks out the damn door, does not drop off a tax return, makes no appointment and I do not recognize him. The idea is even more disturbing that our troubles are cumulative and now cutting humanity down as the insane elevate the insanity to the highest wisdom.

Hold this mood and feel as I do the futility of “elections.” One cannot vote on extinction as it merely is a fact. Like an avalanche is a fact. And governance also is a fact we are told moved man forward. Forgive me but no. Covid is the proof.
