This is a true story and it is damn close to under oath.
To have exercise and enjoy sunlight with very light wind I leave home around 9:30 AM/10AM. Never know exactly where I list on a given sun shiney day but last week has taken me walking to the waterfront often through North Beach. Sometimes I walk from the FiDi to North Beach. Other times from the Wharf. I usually ignore City Lights and the Beat Museum as tourist traps in 2023 though now and then I browse. Today was different though in walking Montgomery from Pine to the waterfront and angling along the Embarcadero and the waterfront I walked back up Broadway and stopped in a small shop and somehow struck up a conversation with the clerk about North Beach. Family biz evidently. He studied engineering-software-dropped out to do a start up which failed so he went back got degree and pounds pavement. He had an interview with the Googleplex. The drollest part is what they are willing to disclose about whom they hire.
They hired no Abdullah dude because of this intangible AI - I think since he studied A.I the Googleplexus utilizes the tech-the A.I. indicated he had a low “Googleness” score and would not be a good fit. We had an amusing five minutes discussing the algols and key words resulting precisely in People Like Us (PLUS in hiring) and since I and he had nothing better to do at his counter we communicated for another ten at 1:00 PM on a sunny afternoon in American peace and plenty about vaccinations (he was forced by his care for his grandmother) and I felt fortunate that my care for Judith required neither of us to vaccinate AS IT WOULD ONE YEAR BEFORE. I walked home through Chinatown on blocked off Grant Street -for one block car free - listening to Frank Sinatra and only a Panda in costume in front of the camera store swayed. Funny place San Francisco. It is what it is even today in the so respectable Barbary Coast. Until the Pandemic this town easily could be Port Royal. After the pandemic more so. “During the main shock, the sand was said to have formed waves. Fissures repeatedly opened and closed, crushing many people. After the shaking stopped the sand again solidified, trapping many victims. Palisadoes cemetery, where the grave of the former pirate Sir Henry Morgan was located, was one of the parts of the city to fall into the sea; his body has never been found.”
