And in August came the Apocalypse
And Covid? Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragically opening the post-war period and Covid ending it?
Marcello Veneziani
The atomic bomb is the original sin of the contemporary world. If the Holocaust tragically closes the horrors of a bygone era, which ended with the fall of the Third Reich and the death of Hitler, the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragically opens the post-war period and the age in which we have now been living for more than seventy years. Two incomparable tragedies, each in its own uniqueness. But one is talked about every day, the other takes the anniversary to tell. One never ends the acts of pain and repentance, apologies and reparations. Of the other only the spectacle of an event without ever wondering anything about the responsibilities and faults. Hiroshima was the initials of the beginning of the new world, while the titles of the dramatic previous film scrolled. It was dropped after the war, practically, when the Third Reich had already collapsed, the dictators were dead, the Axis had broken, Japan itself was on its knees and on its way to an honorable surrender.
With the atomic bomb peace was not born, war aborted. The atomic bomb did not generate the will for peace but stunned the vitality of a people. The atomic bomb is the original wound between East and West, the bleeding vulnus, the black hole of Western and liberal democracy into which no one wants to look. That fungus spawned numerous metastases that are still spreading throughout the planet's ulcerated body. Horror has had children.
The atom bomb killed the heroic side of warfare, the human and military aspect of the conflict. He replaced men with materials, armies with arsenals and invented asymmetrical conflict: machines against humanity, technologies against civilian populations, pilots who do not descend among humans but fight from a distance against helpless lives in their homes and in their countries.
Terrorism is also the artisanal continuation of the atomic bomb by other means. Raging on defenseless populations, destroying as much as possible, is the common philosophy. It is no coincidence that the so-called kamikaze (never was an expression more infamous for the heroic Japanese fighters who only hit military objectives), reduce their human life to the role of bomb carriers, automatons of destruction.
The pilots who dropped the bombs were treated like heroes; the planes that evacuated their deadly eggs have ended up in museums, as revered historical relics. Is there no human responsibility for the bomb, is there no duty of conscientious objection in the face of such ferocious massacres and such indiscriminate crimes? Why then is anyone who obeyed the commands of extermination considered a war criminal and not an executor of atrocious orders given from above? Was free will only for the Germans?
The gay names of the planes and operations that brought atomic death and destruction to Japan are puzzling; there is not even the aura of tragedy in the act performed, not even the consideration of performing an act destined to make the heavens and the earth mourn for a long time.
There has never been a true act of pain and remorse , a public admission of gratuitous cruelty, in short, a deep and real repentance after that bomb. As long as this carelessness of the harm done, this fictitious justification of its necessity, this aberrant technological fatalism persists, the West, America, liberal Democracy will never be able to boast any superiority or any innocence.
There is no excuse for it, but to bring to an end the suffering of those in various death marches, death camps, those that died for the research of Unit 731, and many more.
Seeing the atomic bomb as a new age is critical. 70 years ago is the marker for when we chose unlimited destruction over unlimited creation. Fission or fusion.
It is also when the last vestiges of journalism en masse, the 4th amendment, 5th amendment, & the beginnings of muzzling the 1st for good.
It is when the MIC solidified its power through the air, established fascist rule over corporations, & broadcast its own propaganda to convince the American public- against its will- to enter another European war. Lying about Pearl Harbor, the Lusitania, & of course the threat to the United States....
Which has NEVER. BEEN. at threat from its enemies since the Revolutionary War. We can only fall from within. And we will.
Should we not choose, as you state well in this article, to demand the Truth & insist on honest evaluation of our situation by the People so we can upend the inhumanity perpetrated by the Principalities & Powers of this World.
